RADIOACTIVE SUBSTANCES

Below you will find sections on UK legislation and guidance, with links to useful documents and information.
Please note that we do not claim that this is an exhaustive list of applicable legislation.

LINKS TO UK LEGISLATION

The rules for radioactive substance can be found in schedule 23 of EPR2016. These rules apply to England and Wales (although the requirements of regulations for Scotland and Northern Ireland are largely the same as EPR).

These regulations amend schedule 23 of EPR 2016 to fulfil the requirements of the Basic Safety Standard Directive. Changes include

  • Can no longer dilute something to out of scope
  • New out of scope values (mostly higher)
  • New definition of HASS source

These regulations include requirements for transporting radioactive substances (class 7). This includes adherence to the international requirements in

  • ADR for transport by road
  • RID for transport by rail
  • ADN for transport by inland waterways
